Matchday Preview - September 18th, 2024
Champions League - MW 1
Bologna vs. Shakhtar Donetsk
Bologna did brilliantly to secure Champions League football last season but it has all fallen apart since Thiago Motta left to manage Juventus. The Italians currently sit 17th in Serie A and are yet to win a game. Shakhtar sit seventh in the Ukrainian Premier League and have also not had a great start according to their standards. Shakhtar will be favourites but Bologna are at home and the atmosphere will be great for their first Champions League game.
Sparta Praha vs. RB Salzburg
Sparta sit second in the Czech First League and are unbeaten so far this season across seven games. RB Salzburg sit fifth in the Austrian League having lost at the weekend. Away to Sparta Praha will be tough and this result could go either way.
PSG vs. Girona
Paris Saint Germain sit top of Ligue 1 as they welcome Girona who sit ninth in La Liga. PSG should win this game without any real problems.
Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund
Club Brugge sit second in the Belgian Pro League as they welcome Dortmund who sit second in the Bundesliga. This should be an even game and the result could go either way.
Celtic vs. Slovan Bratislava
Celtic sit top of the Scottish Premier League having won five of their five games. Slovan Bratislava sit top of the Slovak Super Liga having won five and lost one. Away to Celtic is always a tough fixture and despite Slovan’s form they face an uphill task in this game.
Man City vs. Inter Milan
Man City sit top of the Premier League with a perfect start to the season as they welcome Inter Milan who sit third in Serie A. The reigning champions of England and Italy go head to head in what should be a fun game of football. Inzaghi vs. Guardiola in the dugout Haaland vs. Martinez, lots of matchups.
Carabao Cup - Third Round
Brighton vs. Wolves
An all Premier League clash as Brighton who sit sixth in the league with an unbeaten start take on 18th placed Wolves who are yet to win a game. Brighton will be favourites given they are also at home but Wolves are a tricky team.
Coventry vs. Tottenham
Coventry sit 14th in the Championship as they welcome Tottenham who sit 13th in the Premier League. Coventry have nothing to lose especially against Tottenham who are low on confidence at the moment. Postecoglou is under pressure at Tottenham mainly due to the fact that he said he always wins something in his second season so losing to Coventry would not be the best result.
