Weekend Football Review
Fluminense (Brazil) 2 vs. 1 Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia)
Palmeiras (Brazil) 1 vs. 2 Chelsea (England)
Paris Saint Germain (France) 2 vs. 0 Bayern Munich (Germany)
Real Madrid (Spain) 3 vs. 2 Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
Matheus Martinelli scored in the 40th minute to give Fluminense the lead. Marcos Leonardo equalised for Al-Hilal in the 51st minute but Hercules won the game for Fluminense with a goal in the 70th minute. Thiago Silva’s team progress to the semis.
PSG’s game lit up in the final 15 minutes, but Bayern suffered a major loss right before half time as Jamal Musiala collided with Gianluigi Donarumma and his ankle broke. Musiala will be out for 4-5 months. Desire Doue then gave PSG the lead with a goal in the 78th minute. Willian Pacho was sent off in the 82nd minute and Lucas Hernandez also saw red in the 92nd minute as PSG went down to nine men. They still managed to score on the counter though as Ousmane Dembele sealed the win with a goal in the 96th minute.
Gonzalo Garcia gave Real Madrid the lead in the 10th minute, continuing his fine form at the tournament. Fran Garcia made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Maximilian Beier got a goal back for Dortmund in the 92nd minute but Kylian Mbappe made it 3-1 two minutes later with a bicycle kick. Dean Huijsen was sent off for Madrid in the 96th minute and Serhou Guirassy converted a penalty for Dortmund two minutes later and Courtois had to make a top save at the very end to help keep Madrid’s lead.
Chelsea had to make a change to their lineup right before the game as Reece James dropped out and Andrey Santos came in. The first half was all Chelsea and Cole Palmer scored a classic Palmer goal in the 16th minute after he was played through by Chalobah and Palmer created space and slotted the ball into the net. Chelsea should have scored a few more but took a 1-0 lead into half time. Palmeiras came out fighting in the second half and Estevao scored an amazing goal from a tight angle with his weaker foot to equalise in the 53rd minute. Agustin Giay scored an own goal in the 83rd minute via a shot from Gusto as Chelsea took the lead and held on to it to progress. Andrey Santos did a brilliant job coming into the team while Palmer was electric in the first half. Estevao played his final game for Palmeiras and scored his final goal against Chelsea which is poetic. It was good to see the likes of Palmer, Delap, Enzo etc coming up to Estevao and having a chat at the end of the game with the Brazilian due to join Chelsea in a few weeks. Joao Pedro was another player who had a great game coming off the bench. Pedro created chances and had a few himself and it was probably one of the best debuts in recent memory. Credit also has to go to Pedro Neto who started the game and put in a top performance in the first half following Jota’s passing away. That takes a different level of mental fortitude. Onto the semis as we take it a game at a time.

Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one for sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service. The allegations are from 2021 and 2022 and the convenient thing is that he has been charged right after he leaves Arsenal. It is quite clear that Arsenal continued to play Partey despite knowing about what he had done and Arteta along with the fans supported him. It is disgusting and something that Arsenal should be punished for. Mind you they sacked Auba for being late to training and sacked a member of the coaching staff for supporting Palestine.
