Matchday Review - June 30th, 2025
Club World Cup - Round of 16
Inter Milan (Italy) 0 vs. 2 Fluminense (Brazil)
Man City (England) 3 vs. 4 Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia)
40 year old Thiago Silva led Fluminense to a great win against Inter Milan. German Cano gave the Brazilians a lead in the third minute and Hercules wrapped up the win with a goal in extra time.
That wasn’t it as far as shocks go because Al-Hilal beat Manchester City in extra time to reach the quarter-finals. Bernardo Silva scored in the ninth minute to give City the lead and it looked like it would be business as usual. Marcos Leonardo equalised for Al-Hilal in the 46th minute and Malcom put them ahead in the 52nd minute. That lead was short-lived though as Erling Haaland equalised for City in the 55th minute. the game went all the way to extra time and Kalidou Koulibaly restored Al-Hilal’s lead with a header in the 94th minute. Phil Foden equalised for City 10 minutes later but Leonardo scored the winner for the Saudi team in the 112th minute. A crazy game of football but what a moment for Simone Inzaghi’s team. Back to the drawing board for Pep Guardiola’s team as they look towards a break before pre-season starts.
