Weekend Football Review
Premier League MW 33
Newcastle 4 vs. 0 Tottenham
Alexander Isak scored a double while goals from Gordon and Schar ensured that Newcastle got a huge win over Tottenham. It was the first upset of the weekend but it really got the ball rolling for what was to come. Newcastle move up to sixth in the table while Tottenham remain fifth in the table and three points from top four.
Brentford 2 vs. 0 Sheffield United
Arblaster scored an own goal in the 63rd minute to give Brentford the lead and Onyeka sealed the win in the 93rd minute. Brentford remain 15th in the table but end their winless streak while Sheffield United remain bottom and 10 points from safety now.
Man City 5 vs. 1 Luton Town

Haaland converted a penalty in the 76th minute and five minutes later Barkley got a consolation goal for Luton Town. Doku and Gvardiol added a goal each to complete the win for Pep. City go two points clear at the top of the table as they look to go on a run of form.
Nottingham Forest 2 vs. 2 Wolverhampton
Cunha gave Wolves the lead in the 40th minute but Gibbs-White equalised for Forest right before half time. Danilo then gave Forest the lead in the 57th minute but Cunha equalised for Wolves in the 62nd minute. Neither team could find the winner. Forest remain 17th in the table, a point clear of the relegation zone. Wolves remain 11th in the table.
Burnley 1 vs. 1 Brighton

Solanke scored in the 16th minute to give Bournemouth the lead but Fernandes equalised for United in the 31st minute. Kluivert restored Bournemouth’s lead in the 36th minute and it took a penalty in the 65th minute for United to equalise. Fernandes stepped up to convert it. Bournemouth had 20+ shots on goal but could not find the winner. The Cherries drop down to 13 in the table while United drop down to seventh on goal difference. Pressure continues to build on Ten Hag.
Liverpool 0 vs. 1 Crystal Palace
Eye scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute as Palace got a shocking win at Anfield in what was deja vu of Crystanbul. Van Dijk even slipped which almost saw Palace score a second as Liverpool fans must have been having serious flashbacks. Liverpool had 21 shots but none of them hit the back of the net. It was a shocking performance that sees them drop down to third in the table. Palace remain 14th but end a winless streak. It is a huge blow for Klopp in terms of the title race and it having come after a shocking defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League has really sent Liverpool fans into a spiral. Good times.
West Ham 0 vs. 2 Fulham
Andreas Pereira scored a double with a goal in the ninth and 72nd minute as Fulham picked up all three points in this London derby. West Ham drop down to eighth with the loss while Fulham move up to 12th.
Arsenal 0 vs. 2 Aston Villa
It truly was a great Sunday and this fixture was the cherry on top of the cake. Arsenal the favourites to win the league with the best defence and best attack taking on their ex manager in Unai Emery. The narrative was all set but it wasn’t one that went in Arsenal’s favour. Arsenal put in a shocking second half performance and Leon Bailey scored in the 84th minute to give Villa the lead. Watkins doubled the lead in the 87th minute and it sealed three points for the away team. Arsenal sit two points behind Manchester City now and having lobbied all season to be put into title conversations they once again have left the chat before the season finished. Emery does the double over the Gunners which is beautiful to see given the amount of grief their fans gave him. Villa remain fourth in the table but three points clear of Spurs as they fight for Champions League football.
La Liga MW 31
Atletico Madrid 3 vs. 1 Sporting Girona
Mallorca 0 vs. 1 Real Madrid
Cadiz 0 vs. 1 Barcelona
Las Palmas 0 vs. 2 Sevilla
Athletic Bilbao 1 vs. 1 Villarreal

Real Madrid remain eight points clear at the top of the table as Barcelona, Girona, and Atletico make up the top four. Bilbao are now four points behind Atletico in fifth while Real Sociedad sits sixth in the table. Villarreal sits ninth in the table while Sevilla is 13th. Nothing shocking in Spain this weekend but it was a good win for Atletico as they close the gap to Girona.
Serie A MW 32
Lazio 4 vs. 1 Salernitana
Torino 0 vs. 0 Juventus
Napoli 2 vs. 2 Frosinone
Sassuolo 3 vs. 3 AC Milan
Inter Milan 2 vs. 2 Cagliari
Several draws in Italy this weekend while AS Roma’s game was suspended after N’Dicka collapsed on the pitch and was stretchered off. Hopefully the player will be okay and it was only fair that the match was called off. Inter remain 14 points clear at the top of the table while Milan, Juventus and Bologna make up the top four. Roma, Atalanta, Lazio and Napoli form the chasing pack.
Bundesliga MW 29
Bayern Munich 2 vs. 0 Koln
Monchengladbach 1 vs. 2 Borussia Dortmund
RB Leipzig 3 vs. 0 Wolfsburg
Bayer Leverkusen 5 vs. 0 Werder Bremen
Leverkusen were crowned Bundesliga champions yesterday as they thumped Werder Bremen, putting five goals past them. The fans rushed onto the Bayarena pitch and crowded the players as they were hoisted onto the fans shoulders. This is Leverkusen’s first Bundesliga title since they were founded 120 years ago. It is a huge moment for the team and the road leading up to the stadium was even renamed Xabi Alonso Alle. The season isn’t over yet and they will look to remain unbeaten which would make this season even more legendary than it already is. The team is also in the running for the DFB Pokal and the Europa League which is ridiculous.
Bayern, Stuttgart and Leipzig complete the top four with Dortmund sitting fifth on goal difference. Once again congratulations to Leverkusen for ending Bayern Munich’s 11 year run of winning the Bundesliga it truly has been a long time coming.
Ligue 1 MW 29
Lyon 4 vs. 3 Brest
Lyon sit seventh in the table and are in a good run of form while Brest remain second.
Matchday Preview - April 15th, 2024
Premier League MW 33
Chelsea vs. Everton
It was a great weekend of football and one of the reasons was that Chelsea hadn’t dropped points needlessly in a game that they should be winning. The team does play Everton tonight with the Blues sitting ninth and the Toffees sitting 16th. The story is the same for Pochettino and co heading into this game there are a couple of injured players on the list, and we need to score goals and be solid at the back. Everton are fighting for survival and will be up for this game regardless but Chelsea still miraculously have a chance at European football via the league. Let's see but as always COME ON CHELSEA!!!.
Serie A MW 32
Atalanta vs. Verona
Atalanta sits sixth in the table and can go within two points of AS Roma. Verona is 17th and looking to avoid relegation as they sit outside it on goal difference.
