Chelsea welcomed local London team Watford to Stamford Bridge for the final game of the season. Watford were already relegated so all they were playing for was pride. Chelsea had secured top four so Tuchel gave a chance to players that were leaving and fringe players. Mendy started in goal with a back three of Azpilicueta, Silva, and Rudiger. Reece James and Kenedy started as the wing backs with Saul and Kante as the midfielders. Ziyech, Mount, and Havertz started up front.
Havertz scored in the 11th minute after Chelsea had started well. Kenedy was running riot as a wing back and he drilled in a ball for Havertz who finished past the Watford goalkeeper. It was another case of Chelsea squandering chances for the rest of the game. Havertz especially missed some really good chances. Gosling then equalised for Watford in the 87th minute and everyone thought not again. Barkley though came off the bench and scored the winner in the 91st minute thanks to a cross from Reece James. Three points, and a win to close the book on the Roman Abramovich era.
Chelsea Team Review
Goalkeeper
No clean sheet for Mendy but that wasn’t his fault. He had to make some saves but the goal conceded was sloppy defending.
Defenders
Azpilicueta did well and it is yet to be seen if he will be heading to Barcelona in the summer. Silva was solid, Rudiger started and came off in the second half to a standing ovation. A trophy laden time for him at the club as he heads to Real Madrid. Sarr came on the second half and he might not be at the club next season either. Reece James was solid as usual and got another assist to take his goal and assists to 14 for the season level with Trent. Kenedy did well for much of the game but there are question marks on his future as well. One of the best moments of the game was Chilwell coming on for the final few minutes and it will be a great boost for him heading into pre-season.
Midfielders
Saul did well but will probably head back to Atletico. Kante was decent. Mount was good, and Barkley came on late in the game and grabbed the winner in his 100th game. Barkley will probably also be heading out of the club.
Forwards
Ziyech did well and looked lively. Havertz scored a goal but should have scored three more, looked rusty.
Manager
Tuchel got the win to end the season and that is all that mattered having secure the objective.
Todd Boehly was in attendance with all the other owners as Chelsea finally got a win at Stamford Bridge in his presence. The Abramovich era comes to an end and there is a lot to look forward to for next season. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
